American Airlines cuts the price of its flights to Cuba by half

The US airline American Airlines has halved the price of its tickets to Cuba, as reported on Wednesday by the Univisión network.

The television channel had been tracking the high prices of flights between Miami and Havana, which last week were sold for 900 or 1,000 dollars, but yesterday it warned that the same routes were around 400 dollars.

“The benefit is quite a lot, it cost me at least 630, if it goes down to 400 it will be a great help,” a passenger who was on his way to Havana told the television station yesterday.

Prices, however, are still higher than before the pandemic. In addition, travelers have seen the amount of luggage they can carry reduced.

American Airlines announced a week ago that travelers could not take more than two bags even if they paid for it. Now, according to Univisión, they are rethinking the controversial measure

American Airlines announced a week ago that travelers could not take more than two bags even if they paid for it. Now, according to Univisión, the controversial measure is being reconsidered, since hundreds of people travel from Miami to the Island with luggage loaded with any item, from medicines to food, clothing or products that are in short supply or, directly, are not found in Cuba. .

American Airlines currently makes four daily flights to the island, but according to Univisión, the planes, Boeing 787s with capacity for 240 people, were almost empty.

The competition will now be tougher, since the approval of Icelandair’s authorization to carry out charter flights between the US and Cuba, including four from Miami, this week. The transport company will make 170 trips of this type between February 1 and May 31.

Icelandair is authorized for 136 flights from Miami, 17 from Orlando and 17 from Houston.
