Ambassador in Colombia presented credentials

The new designated ambassador of Venezuela in Colombia, Carlos Martínez Mendoza, presented the Copy of Style before the Chancellor (E), José Salazar, in Bogotá, as part of his accreditation process in office.

The protocol act took place at the headquarters of the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where both diplomats exchanged views on the reestablishment of bilateral relations and other issues of common interest, reports a Mppre press release.

The retired general served as Ambassador of Venezuela in Argentina between 2011 and 2018. He was also director of the Bolivarian Army War College, Secretary of the Defense Council, director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, director of Petróleos de Venezuela ( Pdvsa), president of the Development Corporation of the Zuliana Region (Corpozulia) and of Carbozulia.

The new Ambassador replaces former Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia, who on December 14, 2022 became official as Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (Alba-TCP).

The appointment of the new Venezuelan Head of Mission in Bogotá is part of the accelerated process of reestablishing relations between Venezuela and Colombia.

President Gustavo Petro has held four meetings with President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuelan territory, in which they signed a Treaty for the Protection and Promotion of Investments, and the Partial Scope Agreement of a Commercial Nature No. 28, which contemplates the total opening of the binational border.
