Almost 40% of the industries would stop using the highways if there was another type of transport in a good state of structure, reveals an unprecedented survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), released today (18). According to the survey, the railways would be the main option for the flow of production for 28.5% of the industrialists.Almost 40% of industries would change highways for another modal

According to the research, the state of the railways prevents the exchange. Currently, only 8% of industries transport production by rail. Of this total, 63% consider the rail system regular, bad or terrible. Only 31% say it is good or great.

Without the option for railroads, 99% of industries use trucks. At some point, they also resort to air (46%) and port (45%) transport. Then come cabotage navigation (13%) and waterways (12%).

bottlenecks

According to the survey, transport is cited as the main bottleneck by 73% of respondents. Then come energy (13%), sanitation (6%) and telecommunications (5%). According to the CNI, the country currently invests only 0.65% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in transport infrastructure. For the entity, investments of 2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be necessary to modernize the country’s logistics structure and make it adequate both for the internal flow of cargo, as well as for exports and imports.

According to industrial companies, among the main reasons for the sector to change means of transport are the perspective of cost reduction (64%) and greater agility in the delivery of the product (16%). For 46% of entrepreneurs, cost represents the main problem in the logistics and operation of companies.

Among the entrepreneurs interviewed, 84% consider the cost of transport and logistics in the industry to be high or very high and 79% indicate freight as the main logistics cost. Other problems reported are cargo theft (22%), poor condition of modes (20%) and poor quality of the fleet (7%).

Problems

Despite the desire to migrate to the rail modal, industries consider the state of highways as the biggest current problem in cargo transport. Road infrastructure was cited by 67% of respondents as the main logistical bottleneck. Next come the infrastructure of the railways (34%), the lack of expansion or duplication of highways (10%), the cost of fuel (9%) and access to ports (9%).

Commissioned by CNI, the survey was carried out by the FSB Research Institute. In all, 2,500 executives from large and medium-sized industrial companies were heard in the 27 states of the Federation, 500 of which in each region. Interviews were conducted on June 23 and August 9. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points, with a 95% confidence interval.
