the minister of Energy and Mines He highlighted the interest of the Dominican Government in providing the country with sufficient and quality energy to cover the growing demand and maintain a cold reserve capable of covering the eventual exit of any generation plant from the system.

Engineer Antonio Almonte made the statement after thanking national and foreign investors who participated in the process of submitting credentials for the international public tender for the offer of 800 megawatts of electricity based on natural gas.

“I thank the companies that have decided to present credentials for this process in order to select the most competitive proposals or those that are convenient for the delivery of energy in the coming years, especially in a proportion of more than 800 megawatts,” said.

He indicated that “this initiative of the Government has to do with a medium and long-term purpose of providing the country with a sufficient energy infrastructure in terms of the capacity to cover the growing demand, but also to guarantee adequate quality of service and competitive costs”.

Almonte said that in recent years the country has managed with a park of generation that has come a long way to the point of reaching innovations that have allowed it to be chosen as a model around some aspects.“

In this case, we have decided to launch a competitive contracting process for new energies based on power plants with various technologies located in different locations, and this is parallel to the process of development and expansion of the transmission system, with constructions that began and others that are tendered for the construction of power lines, transmission lines and new substations in the South, North and East”.

Almonte explained that some of these works will end next year and others before 2024, and that this entire process is carried out alongside a program to strengthen and develop distribution companies.

In the same terms, Dr. Andrés Astacio, executive vice president and secretary of the Unified Council of the Electricity Distribution Companieswho highlighted that the process seeks to satisfy the growth in demand.

He stated that for the first time the growth in energy demand has been planned for a decade after referring to two other tenders for 400 and 800 megawatts launched so far this year.

The event, held in the Grand Piantini room of the WJ Marriott hotel, was attended, in addition to Dr. Astacio, by the members of the Bid Committee: Pedro Silverio, Noel Báez and Francisco García.
