The Minister of Energy and Mines highlighted the interest of the Dominican Government in providing the country with sufficient and quality energy to cover the growing demand and maintain a cold reserve capable of covering the eventual exit from the system of any generation plant.
Engineer Antonio Almonte made the statement after thanking national and foreign investors who participated in the process of submitting credentials for the international public tender for the offer of 800 megawatts of electricity based on natural gas.
“I thank the companies that have decided to present credentials for this process in order to select the most competitive proposals or those that are convenient for the delivery of energy in the coming years, especially in a proportion of more than 800 megawatts,” he said. He indicated that “this initiative of the Government has to do with a medium and long-term purpose of providing the country with a sufficient energy infrastructure in terms of the capacity to cover the growing demand, but also to guarantee adequate quality of service and competitive costs”.
Almonte said that in recent years the country has been managed with a generation park that has advanced a lot to the point of reaching innovations that have allowed it to be chosen as a model around some aspects.
“In this case, we have decided to launch a competitive contracting process for new energies based on power plants with various technologies located in different locations, and this is parallel to the process of development and expansion of the transmission system, with constructions that began and others that are tendered for the construction of power lines, transmission lines and new substations in the South, North and East”.
