Alleged members of the CJNG ambush the military in Coalcomán, Michoacán

The commander of the 65th Infantry Battalion, Colonel Héctor Miguel Vargas Carrillo, died at the scene. Other soldiers were injured.

Elements of the 43rd Military Zone went to “comb” the area, in support of their companions, however, at the moment there have been no reports of casualties or arrests of members of the criminal group.

After sending his condolences to the family of Colonel Vargas Carrillo, the national leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Marko Cortés, lamented the violence in the country.

“While corcholatas like Adán Augusto are in an open and illegal campaign, violence continues to increase and organized crime expands throughout the territory. My condolences to the family of Colonel Héctor Miguel Vargas Carrillo, who has given his life for Mexico,” he wrote on Twitter.

On October 9, 2021, with the Morenista Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla already at the helm of the Michoacán government, federal authorities, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, presented the Support Plan for Michoacán.

As a result of the above, the Ministry of National Defense sent 4,402 elements; the National Guard, 4,990; and the local police 7,500. The joint operation had the objective of reducing the incidence of homicides in the state, but especially in the areas where the Jalisco Cartel and the United Cartels maintain the armed conflict.

Coalcomán, Tepalcatepec, Aguililla and Cenobio Moreno were considered in the federal plan as “priority territories”. The elements of the Armed Forces then entered these municipalities. The result was that the Jalisco Cartel retreated to the limits of Michoacán and Jalisco.
