A source from the commercial sector revealed the existence of a mafia of Customs collaborators in Dajabón, who demand additional money to clear transit containers.
The whistleblower, who asked to remain anonymous, said that there are ten transit containers at Customs and they are asking for 100 dollars for each container to expedite their departure. He also indicated that those who refuse to pay the money to the network and only want to pay the taxes regulated by law remain for much longer.
The anonymous informant said that under orders from superiors working at Dajabón Customs, a woman is in charge of searching for and demanding money from container owners.
A military source said that they have identified some Customs collaborators who are part of the alleged network, and for the moment it is expected that the General Directorate of Customs will start an investigation.
