Alfonso Lopez Chaurector of the National University of Engineering (UNI), ruled out that he will run for president with the Purple Party before an eventual advance of elections. In an interview for Channel N, the economist said that he had already had a conversation with the political group, but he made his position clear.
They invited me to talk and I went to talk, and when I went to talk I said that I am not going to lend myself to being part of a party because I would seem like part of what I have criticized, ”he declared.
He also stressed that he considers himself to be of the center left and considered that parties of the same line should form a coalition. “What is center left? It is my case, I am a democratic leftist or I am a democratic socialist, ”he added.
At another time, he explained that You cannot be a candidate, since you are not affiliated with any political party. For this reason, he denied his intentions to reach the Government Palace.
“I cannot be a candidate. I cannot be because, at the moment, I am not registered in any party. A gesture is not enough to claim to be a candidate for the Presidency. I have spoken with my friends and I have said that a program is needed, columns of what one wants, ”he said.
The Republic he knew that the Purple Party had been talking with Alfonso López-Chau to assume the presidency. Other possible actors to ally with said group would be the former president Francisco Sagasti and the former president of the Constitutional Court Marianella Ledesma.
“From the conversations, we see that they are purple. They have democratic, moderate, rational thoughts, they are not extremists. It would be great to have people like them in our ranks,” said Jarek Tello Godoy, the group’s national legal representative.
