Alexis Valdés accuses the regime of “buying the people” to fill May Day

MIAMI, United States. — The comedian and presenter Alexis Valdés lamented that there are Cubans who still attend the parades for May Day and accused the island’s regime of buying wills to fill its political acts.

In a post posted on InstagramValdés shared the message of an official from the health sector in Cuba who reminded her workers that attendance at the May Day parade would be taken into account for the delivery of a module.

“If this is not called buying people, then tell me what it is called. The sad thing is that sometimes people price too low. I say that, if you are going to sell yourself, do not change for trinkets. Sell yourself expensive!” wrote the popular humorist, based in Miami.

The official’s message assured that the parade constituted “an act of revolutionary reaffirmation in difficult times” and that only sick workers and those on mission abroad would be exempted from participating.

“It’s just blackmail!”

Cary González, a follower of Valdés on Instagram, revealed that similar messages reached workers from different state entities.

“That was something that happened in all government companies. In my work they even tried to blackmail me, but I said ´I´m not going´”.

“Then participation is not revolutionary reaffirmation nor is it by conscience or anything like that! It’s just blackmail! I’ll starve you and give you food if you tell the world that you’re happy going hungry in this country!” commented user Antonio L. Navarrete-Rey.

Other followers of the comedian confirm that the regime offered “incentives” to Cubans to parade.

“In Pinar del Río they told the people that after the parade they will be sold food. Pure blackmail of the dictatorship to a people united in the greatest misery generated by the dictatorial system”, assured the painter, engraver and draftsman Orestes Barrios.
