The Ninth Criminal Liquidating Chamber of the Court of Justice of Lima convened the beginning of the oral trial for the Ecoteva case, where the former president Alexander Toledo and his wife Eliane Karp are the main defendants, for Thursday, April 12.
The Ecoteva Consulting company was established in Costa Rica in 2012 and is the source of the money used by Eva Fernenbug, Karp’s mother, to buy expensive real estate in Lima.

The Prosecutor’s Office established that the millionaire amounts that came to Ecoteva came from the accounts of the late businessman Josef Maiman, a friend of Toledo. Maiman already recognized that the money transferred was actually from the former president, who orchestrated this maneuver to hide the resources that would have an illegal origin.
For the Public Ministry, the acquisitions were made with the US$35 million that the Odebrecht company paid in bribes to the ex-governor to be awarded the South Interoceanic work.
Prosecutor Rafael Vela will be in charge of supporting the accusation at a hearing, which also compromises Fernenbug, the former Toledo security chief, Avraham Dan On; and the son of the latter, Shai Dan On.
For the former presidential couple, Vela requires 16 years and 8 months in prison for the crime of money laundering.
