In Argentinathe government of Alberto Fernandez carried out an important milestone this Sunday by inaugurating the first section of the Nestor Kirchner pipeline. During the inauguration ceremony, the vice president Cristina Fernandez and the Minister of Economy -who became a presidential candidate for Peronism- Sergio Massa. During his speech, the Argentine president also made a brief mention of the water crisis facing Uruguay, especially Montevideo and the metropolitan area that is a consequence of the drought affecting the country.
“We take with us the experience of having put our chests up and of having moved on. The time ahead of us faces many challenges and gives us opportunities. The great challenge is climate change, it has already been seen. We saw it in the drought, Uruguay lives it. In Montevideo they open the faucets and the water does not come out”, Fernández said when inaugurating the most important project of his administration.
This generated the reaction of leaders of the National Party, representing the ruling party of President Luis Lacalle Pou. for the senator Grace Bianchi (third in power of the right-wing bloc, after Lacalle and the vice president, Beatriz Argimon), assured that he is “internationally disgusted” by the “international lies” told by Fernández.
For his part, the National Director of Telecommunications, the Colorado Guzman Acosta and Lara, pointed out: “We are facing a difficult situation as a result of a historical drought, but for now the water continues to come out. Alberto Fernández, instead of publicly lying, should deal with Argentina, a country each day more submerged, but in hunger and poverty”.
The nationalist senator sebastian da silva, tweeted: “They internationalized the militancy for the drought. Now it is the idol of Orsi who is lying”.
Lacalle Pou: Fernández spoke “out of bad intentions or ignorance”
President Lacalle Pou also reacted, who replied to Fernández’s statements. Asked at a press conference in Durazno for what would be the reason for these words, he replied: “It could be for two reasons: bad intention, that I discard it, or out of ignorance. I guess it’s reading on the Internet and you find out right away if you want to have the correct information”.
He asked to be “very careful” in the criticism that is made from actors politicians abroad. “Accept criticism, but do not give a handle outside. Because giving a handle outside can bring these things back. It is the free game of democracy. Criticism, especially of the government, but outside take care of ourselves a lot. Everyone knows how to take care of the country and from the place that they have to do it”, he stated.
He reaffirmed his decision not to accept Argentina’s offer of help to address the water deficiency.
“It’s very simple: the offer was formal, we accepted it. I don’t know where they got that I didn’t accept. We accept it. Without detracting from the help, because we can’t go around doing the cracks, between what Montevideo and part of the metropolitan area consume, this help is negligible. We have it just in case. Anything helps, we appreciate it, we accept it, but we stand by in case we need it at some point, ”she commented, and assured that there was no inconvenience in the Executive Power for the request for help made by the Municipality of Montevideo. “Upside down,” she marked.
“Everyone has to row to help. It would be very minor to complain about that. Maybe it’s not the role, but tomorrow, let’s give the example, it rains a lot, and the storm drains are not clean, are we going to say that this is the task of the Municipality of Montevideo? We all have to pull to the same side. Far from bothering, it’s good,” concluded Lacalle.
