In May, the demand for passengers transported in the 13 terminals of the North Center Airport Group (OMA) grew 28.4 percent compared to the same period in 2021. In its most recent report, it indicated that the traffic of national users increased 35.6 percent. cent, however, the international decreased 12.6 percentage points.

Meanwhile, in its monthly report, Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (Asur) reported that total passenger traffic for May 2022 reached 5.5 million, which represents an increase of 20.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, showing a continued recovery in travel and increased demand for air travel in general.

Asur announced that compared to May 2019, user traffic recovered 41.1 percent in Colombia, 21.6 in Puerto Rico, and 13.3 percent in Mexico.

Colombia also on the rise

He indicated that the growth of passenger traffic in Mexico and Colombia was driven by domestic and international traffic, although in Puerto Rico it remains weak. He specified that all figures reflect comparisons between the period from May 1 to 31, 2022 and the same months of 2021 and 2019.

Asur operates nine airports in the southeast of Mexico, including Cancun -the most important tourist destination in the country-, the Caribbean and Latin America, and six airports in the north of Colombia.

For its part, the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) announced that last month the 12 Mexican terminals under its responsibility registered an increase in total passenger traffic of 13.7 percent, compared to May 2019. The airports of Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana, Los Cabos and Guadalajara showed growth of 35, 32.6, 27.2 and 1.3 percent, respectively, compared to the same month two years ago.
