The first convoy of the Felipe Ángeles Military Engineers Group arrives today in Tulum, Quintana Roo, to undertake the construction of the last sections of the Mayan Train.

It is the same body of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) that built the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and will now be in charge of completing the railway that will allow to cross the Yucatan peninsula.

There are a total of 36 vehicles that transport 12 units of heavy machinery, six dump trucks and nine mobile offices.

The convoy left last Saturday from the AIFA, in Santa Lucía, state of Mexico, passed through San Martín Texmelucan, Puebla; Córdoba and Minatitlán, Veracruz, and spent the night in Cárdenas, Tabasco.

On Sunday he left for Villahermosa, passing through Escárcega and Xpulil, Campeche, as well as Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo, to reach his final destination.

Sedena will be responsible for building sections 5 North, from the south of Cancun to Playa del Carmen; 6, from Tulum to Bacalar, and 7, from Bacalar to Escárcega, Campeche, which will close the Mayan Train circuit.

The works must be completed by December of next year and will be in charge of the head of the project’s coordinating center, military engineer Raúl Manzano Vélez.

Last January, in an interview with La Jornada, the military command explained that the sections of the work that run parallel to the Riviera Maya are the most technically difficult, because when they began, by private construction companies, large holes were found in the subsoil, part of the peninsula’s cenotes system, so it was necessary to modify the original project, which contemplated an elevated viaduct, and change the route so that it ran on firm ground, up to 4 kilometers away from the coast.

Due to the technical complexity, the President of the Republic requested the support of military engineers from the Ministry of Defense, and here we are. That is why we were entrusted with this section, because it is technically very difficult, and we have all the experience to do it.he claimed.
