Michael Pérez hit a home run with the bases loaded and Carlos Martínez pitched seven good innings for the Águilas Cibaeñas to defeat the Gigantes del Cibao 8-0 during the only match held last night of the 2022-2023 fall-winter baseball tournament.
The matches that would be held by the Tigres del Licey and the Leones del Escondido at the Quisqueya Stadium, and Toros del Este against the Estrellas Orientales at the Tetelo Vargas in San Pedro de Macorís were suspended due to rain. Both matches will be rescheduled by the Dominican Baseball League (Lidom) on appropriate dates.
The Grand Slam for catcher Pérez, who played his last game with the Eagles, came in the bottom of the first inning.
Andretty Cordero also blasted the two-run producing center paddock. He finished the game with three RBIs.
Meanwhile, Martinez (3-1), who won, allowed only five hits and struck out seven. He was escorted by Geoff Hartlieb, who worked the last two innings of two hits, two walks and three strikeouts. The setback was for Richelson Peña, who in three innings allowed five hits, five runs and one strikeout.
