The Loma Quita Espuela Foundation and Hacienda Ambrosía signed an agreement to increase the protection of the Loma Quita Espuela Scientific Reserve, which is of vital importance, not only because its endemic flora and faunabut also for the production of the water that gives life to the provinces of María Trinidad Sánchez and Duarte in the Dominican Republic.
The agreement, signed by Jesus Moreno Portalatinpresident of the Foundation, and Daniel Dalet Casalsdirector of Hacienda Ambrosía, seeks to guarantee the biodiversity of the ecosystem of 72.5 square kilometers, located in the Northern mountain range, which home to 74 species of birdssome vulnerable, such as the Bicknell’s parrot and thrush.
According to the rubric, Hacienda Ambrosia will support with economic resources, special programs, time, personnel and community involvement the conservation work carried out since 1992 by the foundation in charge of the scientific reserve that integrates the peaks Remove Espuela, Loma Vieja, El Quemado, Cinnamon and Firm Los Sabrosos.
Likewise, the regenerative agriculture initiative will keep 1,100 hectares virgin, equivalent to 50% of its surface extension, for the forest conservation of the area and the protection of the scientific reserve.
The Loma Quita Espuela reserve is one of the most important and appreciated ecological areas in the Dominican Republic.

About Loma Quita Espuela
Located in the provinces of Duarte and María Trinidad Sánchez, Loma Quita Espuela has one of the most important water catchment systems in the northeast part of the island and has the category of Scientific Reserve and was thus declared in the Sectoral Law of Protected Areas. 202-04.
It houses a high percentage of endemism in its fauna and flora and has a spectacular beauty because its primary forest is well preserved. Lush patches of tree ferns also stand out in its landscape.
