Mexico City, Mexico.- A plane of the American airline Southwest was forced to return to the Havana airport in an emergency, this noon.
Neighbors of the place wrote in networks that they saw it circling in the air and then heard several explosions.
As confirmed by the group “Cuban Aviation Lovers” the plane managed to take off and a few minutes later the right engine exploded during the ascent.
In said group, a user identified as Gerrado Mojena recounted “I live right here next to the airport in Boyeros and right now I have lived an experience that even my legs are weak. A Southwest Airline plane taking off went off throwing terrifying explosions and I saw it come right back.”
Likewise, the user Edmundo Dantés Junior published on his Facebook profile some comments from other residents of the municipality of Boyeros who affirm that “the plane was able to land at the airport and they immediately poured water on it to cool it, but it did make two explosions in the air in the right engine.
An airport source confirmed to the independent newspaper 14YMedium that the aircraft had landed in the area of the runway closest to Terminal 3 although it had initially departed from Terminal 2. “Firefighters and ambulances arrived but no details are yet known, the entire place is cordoned off,” the source added a few hours back.
According to the information available on the networks and the testimonies of the witnesses, there were no human losses to regret. The flight was leaving Havana and was supposed to land in Florida.
