Aerovaradero opens up to the private sector to solve the collapse of its parcel service

Aerovaradero opens up to the private sector to solve the collapse of its parcel service

The collapse of the packages sent from abroad through Aerovaradero has led the Government to seek external solutions. From this Monday 15 to the next 24, a public bidding period is open for any type of company, state or private, cooperative or mixed capital to manage logistics services.

According to an informative note released by the official press, the objective is to automate and reduce delivery times for packages arriving in Cuba. The companies that present themselves must deliver their projects to participate “from the nationalization of the merchandise, in the billing, citation and distribution of merchandise at home and the closest points of the clients.”

Interested parties must have “novel projects for the automation of loading processes and information to the population, among others,” says the Aerovaradero statement, which thus aspires to solve the problem of distribution that accumulates through what it calls freight forwarders. Early in OctoberThere were already around a million packages piled up in state warehouses, a good part of them for more than a year, even though the maximum delivery period established by the state company is 30 days.

Applicants must submit with the project the personal and legal data of the interested party, the name if relevant, a description of the activities, business plan and use of technology. It is also necessary to deliver the approved corporate purpose and the documentation that supports the activity in accordance with the law or the agreements signed in the event of the use of subcontractors.

The offers will be read on November 25 by the commission that the state air cargo will designate to choose the winners and the result will be announced on the 30th of this month through the company’s website. Aerovaradero maintains that the bidding process will be governed by the principles of transparency, equality and publicity, as is usually done in this type of public tenders around the world.

The process comes two months after the same prime minister, Manuel Marrero, warned of the worrying volume of undelivered packages and promised a “definitive solution.” The official surprised by exonerating both the United States and the blockade and the covid-19 of the problems of cargo distribution and asked that appropriate action be taken to put an end to the delays.

According to the senior official, the management center created in the Ministry of Transportation to help resolve the matter had already yielded “very important results” and companies that distributed between 1,000 and 2,000 packages a day went on to deliver 19,000.

But the news, also spread on the account of Facebook of the state company, has not calmed the spirits of the many Cubans who anxiously await packages from abroad. At a time when shortages are reaching peaks not seen for decades, the help that thousands of people receive from their families abroad is not arriving even in times that exceed the rational.

“The truth is that I do not know how they can have so little shame. To consider your plans fulfilled when everything is a big lie. I have sent two packages to my family that arrived in Cuba in June. Supposedly they were in the warehouse on October 10 already today they are still there, “reproached a user.

Another commentator made reference to one of the problems most reported by Cuban customers, both at Aerovaradero and at the Post Office. “Well I hope the robberies stop, because they finished with my packages.”

And there was no shortage of people who applauded that the private sector could enter the business: “Congratulations. It is really a very good decision to integrate the private sector into your company, the best they have done in its history. You will soon see a substantial improvement.”
