This Friday, February 25, the AEBU public sector strike and the March of Resistance to Punta del Este were held, where they held an act.
The trade union measure had as its slogan: “The defense of public companies and the Uruguayan people, and for a fair collective agreement for workers.”
AEBU thanked “the dozens of sister unions” that accompanied the mobilization, including: AUTE, FANCAP, ATSS and FUCVAM, among others.
The president of the Council of the Official Financial Sector of the Uruguayan Banking Association (AEBU), Lorena Lavecchia, expressed that so far they have not made any progress in their claims, beyond the goodwill of the Ministry of Labor.
He assured that “managing to maintain 100% of the vacancies, up to a total of 1,000 and not suffering salary loss are claims of the workers.”
“We urgently need the entry of personnel, so that public companies continue to make profits for Uruguayans. Uruguay cannot be allowed to grow economically, and that workers continue to be harmed in terms of salary reductions”, he stated.
Everything goes up, except wages
He questioned that “everything goes up, except the workers’ wages”, and for this reason it is important that the working class organize itself.
He said that the decision to go to Punta del Este is because the resort is a very symbolic place. “Where the workers for the salary we receive cannot vacation.”
“It is where the owners of the companies and those people who are privileged in Uruguayan society can vacation,” Lavecchia said.
