Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Immunization Strategies asks to “orient very well” the vaccine against monkeypox

The president of the Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Immunization Strategies (Cavei), Jaime Rodríguez, called on the health authorities to define “very well” the orientation of the population group that Jyneos, the monkeypox vaccine, will target.

“Once the person has contact with someone who may have monkeypox, the health authority has to define who are candidates to be vaccinated,” said Rodríguez, who explained this need in the global shortage of the required dose, he said.

“It is not easy to obtain or that one can buy at the pharmacy; it is a vaccine that is restricted throughout the planet, so the population to which it is directed must be very well oriented,” said the doctor. Until September 1, the authorities reported 451 cases of monkeypox, with almost 90% of the patients belonging to the Metropolitan Region.
