This Monday, as part of the start of classes, the teachers of ademys (Association of Secondary and Higher Education Teachers) carry out a massive mobilization in rejection of the salary offer proposed a few days ago, during joint negotiations with the sector.
The Union last Wednesday called a strike for this Monday, which includes a march towards the Buenos Aires Government Headquarters, where the workers of ademys They are going to demand a wage increase above inflation.
“The salary agreement of the Government of Buenos Aires caused a lot of anger in the schools, since inflation is higher than the offer of 60% in six installments, whose last installment is only in December. It seems that the officials of the Ministry of Education do not go to the supermarket; They do not have to rent or feed their families”, warned the secretary general of ademysMariana Scayola, in a statement.
The Government of Buenos Aires proposed to educators a salary increase of 60% until December. This would be paid in six tranches as follows: 14% from February, 6% from April, 10% from June, 10% from August, 10% from October and 10% from December.
However, the union rejected the proposal and demands a 100% salary increase per position, that the initial salary be equal to the value of the family basket, which currently reaches $250,000, and automatic indexation for inflation, according to the union.
For her part, the Buenos Aires Minister of Education, Soledad Acuña, held this morning at a press conference, during the inauguration of the 2023 school year, that all the schools in the City opened their doors normally and that the measure of force called by ademys it is already habitual.
“The Union, who went on strike this year, went on strike last year, and the year before, and the year before. They strike every year at the beginning, there is nothing we can do so that they do not strike”indicated Acuña, adding that it is a “minority union.”
Teachers from four other provinces called a strike
During this week, the 2023 school year will begin at the national level. However, in some provinces, the start of classes has been disrupted by the teacher strike.
In this way, in the provinces of Córdoba, Santa Cruz, Chubut and Río Negro, classes did not start this Monday or they did so partially, due to the measure of force demanding “fair wages”.
