MIAMI, United States. — A Spanish tourist died as a result of the explosion at the Saratoga hotel in Havana, media outlets in the Iberian country reported this Saturday.
The news was spread on social networks by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, who stated that another citizen of that nation was seriously injured.
“Tragic news reaches us from Cuba. A Spanish tourist has died and another Spanish citizen is seriously injured after the explosion of the Saratoga hotel. All our love for their families and those of all the victims and injured. Our support also to the Cuban people”, expressed the politician in his Twitter account. Twitter.
So far, the identity of the deceased and the citizen reported among the injured is unknown.
At least 25 deaths from the explosion
In principle, the Cuban Minister of Tourism, Juan Carlos García Granda, had assured that there were no foreign citizens among the dozens of injured or among the deceased that were initially reported.
This morning, the coordinator of the Government of Havana, Orestes Llánez, announced the official press media and others accredited on the island that the death toll by the explosion at the Saratoga hotel had risen to 25.
The official indicated that most of the identified victims of the incident are from Havana (19) and that deaths are also reported from Holguín (3) and Matanzas (1).
According to Llánez, during the early morning the rescue forces managed to access the basement of the facility, where they are still looking for possible survivors.
Among those injured and deceased by the accident are hotel workers and citizens who were circulating near it at the time of the explosion.
