The Ombudsman warned that 162 dialysis patients in Córdoba have not received supplies due to attacks by the ‘Clan del Golfo’

The Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo Assis, denounced that 162 dialysis patients are at serious risk due to the attacks that illegal armed groups such as the ‘Clan del Golfo’ have perpetrated in the south of the department of Córdoba, where since last Thursday it has not been possible to deliver kidney supplies for medical treatments.

The blockades are preventing access to the right to health and another 245 patients with kidney diseases would be in danger, because the supplies have not been able to move to the south of the department of Atlántico, where they must arrive before next Monday to continue with medical treatments.

At the same time, it was learned that in various regions of the country’s northwest, hundreds of people with chronic diseases and vital treatments are at risk, for the violent acts that have not ceased in the country.

“We demand respect for medical missions and we hope that no obstacles will be imposed on the transit of ambulances or health personnel, since respect for the right to life is fundamental. Armed groups cannot play with the lives of patients, the situation is critical because treatments such as dialysis must be done daily, “he said.

The Ombudsman warned that “the lives of these people are in danger if they do not receive these supplies soon, that is why we call on those who promote armed actions to allow the passage of vehicles from the medical missions stopped on the roads. La Apartada, Sampués and Magangué, as well as for the others who come from Barranquilla and the center of the country”.

In the last few hours, the Ombudsman’s Office issued an early warning of imminence in the municipality of Copey (Cesar), for the combats between paramilitary groups such as the ‘Clan del Golfo’ and the Self-Defense Conquerors of the Sierra Nevada.

According to the entity in 15 neighborhoods, including: El Porvenir, La Isla, Las Flores, Montelíbano, El Carmen, Santoro, Ritalicia, Las Mercedes, La Esperanza, El Porvenir, Camilo Torres, April 27 and May 13, There is a serious risk of acts of violence in which the main victims would be the communities.

Phenomena of the armed conflict such as forced displacement, armed confinement, massacres, homicides, among other acts, they could be presented, according to the Ombudsman’s Office.

The alert warns, mainly, that they are at risk “merchants, housewives, women, migrant population, homeless people, motorcycle taxi drivers, users of psychoactive substances, community, communal or neighborhood leaders, boys, girls, adolescents, young people and older adults”.
