A soldier was killed by a sniper in Norte de Santander

In the last hours, at a time when the troops of the Special Energy and Road Battalion No. 21 were carrying out operations in the Catatumbo area, were harassed by sniper shots in the village of El Rosal, in the municipality of El Tarra, North of Santander.

This criminal act As a result, it left a professional soldier hit by a sniper belonging to the ELN, Hector Front. The Army has said that this is a vile and cowardly action that violates human rights.

Immediately after this attack occurred, and after learning that one of the soldiers was wounded, the combat medics gave the uniformed man first aid, who was subsequently evacuated via air to a care center in Cúcuta, to be treated by specialized medical personnel. Despite the efforts of doctors to save his life, the professional soldier Iván Andrés Gamarra Martelo died from the wound caused by the bullet impact.

Through a statement, the National Army, through the commander of the Second Division, has said that “This Command emphatically repudiates the murder of our soldiera hero of the country who offered his life in the line of duty”.

On the other hand, they stated that “in compliance with the constitutional principle of harmonious collaboration between institutions, work will continue with the other authorities to find the whereabouts of those responsible for the death of this hero of the country.”

They have also expressed their sorrow for the death of the professional soldier, and in turn indicated that “The men and women of this Command pray for the eternal rest of the professional soldier and sends a message of condolences and accompaniment to his family and friends.

In the next few hours, the body of the deceased soldier will be transferred to the village of Poza Obscura, jurisdiction of El Carmen de Bolívar in the department of Bolívar, to receive military honors and his subsequent burial.
