A producer reported the death of 5,000 chickens due to lack of bulk gas

A poultry producer from the town of San Bautista in Canelones denounced this Friday the death of 5,000 chickens due to the lack of bulk gas needed to heat the hatcheriesRadio Montecarlo reported.

A conflict between the union and the company has been affecting the activity of the Riogas company for several days, one of the four companies that markets this energy.

“Last night (for Thursday) we ran out of gas. Five thousand chickens on my farm from those admitted last week could not stand the cold. They need 28 degrees, 30 degrees. There is no way to keep them alive,” said Daniel Bigliante.

“I am waiting for the Riogas company or workers to put their hands on their hearts and to treat me at least as an aid to be able to save what is left. I also have a family, accounts and debts in the banks as they have”, added the producer.

The National Cooperative of the United Chicken Farmers Association will meet with the Uruguayan Chamber of Poultry Processors to analyze the situation that “is causing serious problems” for producers in the sector, said the vice president of the Farmers Guild, Juan José Prando.
