Despite the controversy, Mexico will hire 500 Cuban doctors and buy vaccines without WHO endorsement

A Mexican judge admits a lawsuit that rejects the hiring of Cuban doctors

The Mexican justice has admitted for processing a lawsuit that rejects the hiring of 500 Cuban doctors announced by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, according to the Associated Press.

According to mexican pressthe second district judge in matters of Civil, Administrative and Labor Amparo of Puebla, José Luis Evaristo Villegas, is the one who has admitted the lawsuit, although he has refused the provisional suspension because “so far it is not noted that the agreement signed by the federal government does not contravene public order provisions.

“Future acts of uncertain realization, both in their execution and in their effects, are not likely to serve as a matter for the precautionary measure”

“Future acts of uncertain execution, both in their execution and in their effects, are not likely to serve as a matter for the precautionary measure; this only proceeds if there is certainty about their execution because they are imminent acts,” the judge concluded. .

The judge has given the Government a deadline to present its allegations and will decide on June 1 whether or not to grant the definitive suspension.

The AP agreed to the request, which indicated that the Mexican government has not shown that the doctors have the capacity or adequate training to practice medicine in Mexico and it is argued that the remuneration of the health workers could go to the Cuban government in instead of the professionals.

The complainants allege that the agreement was negotiated “without ascertaining their quality as doctors, their studies having been approved, in accordance with the regulations on the matter, without their knowledge of the incidence of diseases among the Mexican population or knowledge of endemic diseases of our country and its various regions”.

“His hiring is irregular, favoring the conditions of modern slavery and even human trafficking,” the lawsuit adds.

Lopez Obrador announced during his trip to Havanaon May 8, the hiring of 500 Cuban doctors, in addition to the vaccines from the island. The Mexican president assured that his country has a “deficit of specialists” and there are health workers who do not want to move to remote areas, so the Cubans They will have “the Mountain of Guerrero” as their base of work, one of the most conflictive points in the country, due to the presence of several cartels that dispute the transfer of drugs.

After the opposition criticized the measure, affirming that there are capable doctors in the country and underlining the well-known conditions of semi-slavery in which Cubans work, the Mexican president attacked them and maintained that he would not back down.

“His hiring is irregular, favoring the conditions of modern slavery and even human trafficking,” adds the lawsuit.

“Why not have the doctors? If we are doing the Cuban thing, it is because we need them,” said López Obrador, who took the opportunity to charge his “adversaries” of the “neoliberal period” for having damaged the public health system.

This Tuesday, and to appease the controversy, the Government announced a broader plan, which it has baptized “Recruitment for medical specialists” and through which it seeks to hire 13,765 national specialists with which to reduce the deficit.

“We don’t have the doctors we need, according to the World Health Organization (WHO),” the president said. Positions include internists, emergency physicians, gynecologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, and anesthesiologists.

The president assured that the Government is going “to fill with Mexican doctors as much as possible”, because “unfortunately” the country does not have all the required specialists.
