A man was formalized this Saturday for drug and substance trafficking after the seizure of more than 1,400 kilos of cocaine that the Prefecture carried out on Friday, as announced by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Mónica Ferrero, ordered the formalization of the investigation against the detainee for trafficking in substances and narcotics prohibited in the form of transport and storage. A six-month pretrial detention was ordered while the investigation is ongoing.

As reported on Friday, The drug, which totaled 1,474 kilos, was hidden in 32 tubs and 4 metal containers that were waiting to be dispatched abroad through the large ship Nigeria.

As specified by the Prosecutor’s Office, the detainee is the person who brought the substance into the country, and in addition to the ton and a half of drugs in the raid, a little more than a kilo of extra cocaine, scales and a firearm were also seized.

The transfer of the drug to the ship where it was finally seized was done in a truck (which was also seized) that belonged to a family business that worked regularly for the port.

At the moment there is no information on where the drug was going, although the route of the ship in which the shipment was seized was destined for Europe.
