A family rescued more than 70 turtles from a lagoon that dried up in the Corrientes town of Goya and saved them from imminent death, due to lack of water and disappearance of their habitat, due to the extreme drought that plagues the province.

Then, her husband, Fernando Gaúna and Emanuel, a relative who came from Rosario to spend the holidays and in a few hours, he went from being a tourist to a rescuer.

“They were sunk in the mud, it was not easy to get them outthey were like suction cups, we put them in some wheelbarrows, we took them and we wet them with a hose, we removed all the mud, one by one, and we decided to move them to a place called “La Cascadita, 1.5 kilometers from there” Natalia explained.

Excited, she said that after the bath “the turtles seemed to have revived, they moved and were full of energy.”

Finally, they transferred more than 70 turtles to that mirror of water that “is like a well, with camalotes.”

“It is the same ecosystem, their habitat, where they do not lack water and can move around,” they added.

“The children were happy, especially Camilo, who wants to be a veterinarian. Among those he saved was a baby turtle, smaller than his hand,” said the lawyer, adding that at home “we love animals and always had pets.”

“We are surprised by all this, by the huge number of turtles we have rescued, but we are also surprised because people are amazed,” the woman told Télam.

Finally, Genaro and Camilo’s mother said that today’s family program is to “go see how the turtles are.”
