A 12-year-old girl died and her twin sister, both of Argentine nationality, is hospitalized in critical condition after jump from the balcony of a third floor of the building where they live in the municipality of Sallenton the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain, so The police are investigating the case as a possible suicide, but hypotheses of family problems or school bullying are also being considered.
The incident occurred yesterday around 3:00 p.m., when both rushed from the third floor of the house to which they had recently moved with their familylocated on Calle Estación 4, and one of the girls died instantly while the other managed to be stabilized and taken urgently to the Parc Taulí hospital in Sabadell.
So far, the case is being investigated as a possible suicide, although investigators have not ruled out reasons such as family problems or school bullying, local media reported.
The family has lived in the town of Sallent for about two years and the case caused a strong commotion in this town of just over six thousand inhabitants.
The City Council decreed three days of mourning and a minute of silence was held in front of this public office this noon, while all scheduled public events were suspended, including carnival festivities.
“We have made ourselves available to the need that may exist for all the people affected, first of all the family and also to all who consider it appropriate to be able to pass this fact that saddens us all very much”assured the local mayor, Oriol Ribalta, at a press conference.
“We are dismayed; for us this is a tragedy,” he added in statements to Catalunya Ràdio and confirmed that psychological assistance is being given to the family.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education of the Generalitat reported that the Psychopedagogical Counseling and Guidance Team activated the protocol to provide support to the twins’ schoolmates, together with professionals from the Emotional Well-being Program.
From this Wednesday night, the neighbors came to the house to leave candles and messages of support for the family.
