Cuban Leonardo Cárdenas was exalted this Monday to the Hall of Fame of softball during the congress of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC, for its acronym in English) that is being held these days in Chinese Taipei.
The current director of the Cuban men’s team is a legend in softball and for many he has been the best shortstop in this sport in the country, he refers a note published on the website Hit.
Cárdenas, who was born in the Villa Clara town of Caibarién, was a member of the national team of your sportof which he was captain and with which he achieved important results, including fourth place in the 1988 World Championship, held in Canada.
He remained active until 2004 and since 2017 he took the reins of the main men’s squad on the Island, which he led to qualify for the upcoming World Championship. In addition, he won the third seat in the continental contest held at the end of last April in the Argentine city of Paraná.

Since inductions into the Softball Hall of Fame began in 1983, several Cubans have deserved that recognition in various categories. Jesús Echarte and Luisa Medina were included as players in 2013, when Armando Acosta also received the honor, in the Administrators section.

Among the other news left by the WBSC congress in Asian lands was the re-election of the Italian Ricardo Fraccari as head of the organization for a period that will end in the year 2028.

With the 100 votes received, Fraccari surpassed the candidate for the post, Frenchman Didier Seminet, who received 43. The voting delegates rose to 144 and the required majority was 73, according to event reports.
Malaysian Beng Choo Low was also confirmed as Secretary General, and the position of Treasurer will be held by Angelo Vicini, from San Marino.
