Patricia Ariza will be the Minister of Culture of the Petro government

Patricia Ariza will be the Minister of Culture of the President-elect’s cabinet, as announced by Gustavo Petro himself. “Patricia Ariza, from Santander de Vélez, poet and artist, will be the new Minister of Culture. An explosion of culture throughout Colombia for Peace and coexistence. A culture for identity to energize diverse Colombianness.”, published in his account from Twitter.

(José Antonio Ocampo will be the Minister of Finance of the Petro government).

The president also pointed out that, together with Ariza, there will be “the teacher Jorge Zorro, in the search for the extension of musical education for children and youth in schools, the heritage expert María Eugenia Martínez and the construction leader culture of the Human Bogota Santiago Trujillo”.

This is the third official appointment made by Gustavo Petrowho appointed José Antonio Ocampo as Minister of Finance, and Álvaro Leyva as Chancellor.

Who is Patricia Ariza?

Patricia Ariza is 76 years old, was born in Vélez, Santander, and studied Art History at the National University of Colombia. Ariza ands the current director of the Colombian Theater Corporation and creator of the Women on Stage for Peace Festival.

The new minister was part of the Patriotic Union, and founded the La Candelaria Theater together with Santiago García, and the Colombian Theater Corporation.

In 2007, he received the Prince Claus Award for his contributions to universal culture, and in 2014 the National Award for the Defense of Human Rights in Colombia for his commitment to the search for peace in Colombia.
