The Ministry of Social Development (Mides) will deploy a special operation in Montevideo to face the wave of cold air announced by the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) that will impact part of the territory between Saturday and Monday.
The most affected areas will be those of the southwest, central, east and northeast. The Meteorologist Nestor Santayana explained to The Observer that the cold wave will not affect the entire country, despite the fact that “very low” temperatures throughout the territory, with minimums ranging between -2°C and 2°C and maximum between 10°C and 13°C.
With that scenario, the Minister of Social Development, Martín Lemaannounced this Friday night that a special operation will be deployed in Montevideo in coordination with the Ministries of National Defense and Interiorafter meeting with Javier García and Luis Alberto Heber, holders of both portfolios.
Lema indicated that although the polar cold wave is forecast for the central zone of the country, it was decided to carry out the operation also in Montevideo due to the proximity to the minimum temperatures.
In turn, he indicated how the departments of the interior will proceed: “In those that have the polar cold wave warning, there is already coordination with the Cecoed (Departmental Coordination Centers) and some joint tours with the Ministry of the Interior are already planned. and with the Municipalities.
And he added: “With respect to the rest of the departments of the interior, which do not have a polar cold wave warning, we must raise our guard and there are also coordinations to measure meteorological behavior.”
As far as Montevideo is concerned, there will be a reinforcement of the territorial work of the Mides in what are the contingency nightclubs, where Check-in time will be from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
It will also be in coordination with the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) Y there will be a mobile polyclinic in the Plaza de los Bomberos attending people and carrying out check-ups.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Defense will provide military units so that Mides can increase its shelter quotas while the Ministry of the Interior will collaborate with the different transfers to shelter centers or military units.
“There are approximately 4,000 places available but they can be increased because we have different emergency alternatives that, depending on how the demand is presented, are incorporated to always be able to respond, “explained Lema.
