The Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens, estimated this Tuesday that in the winter season “one million foreign tourists” will arrive in the country, which will once again break records and generate significant foreign currency income, as happened in the first months of the year when 1.2 million tourists arrived from other latitudes“with an economic impact of 1,100 million dollars,” he specified.
“We calculate that in the winter season we are going to have a million foreign tourists, so that is also going to mark a significant number of occupations throughout the country,” he said in statements to Télam Radio.
In that sense, he expressed that the season “Surely it is going to surprise us and that it is going to break records again and that it is going to leave a lot of dollars for Argentina with how important they are at this moment”.
The minister recalled that “in the first months of the year, more than 1.2 million foreign tourists arrived in Argentina with an economic impact of more than 1,100 million dollars” and pondered this scenario based on the government actions that have been deployed.
“We have worked very hard with Uruguay, with numbers that are already above the pre-pandemic; we are working the same with Brazil; Chile has been growing a lot; the United States has been surprising us, so I think we are going to have a winter with very good news” , he underlined.
In that analysis, Lammens highlighted “the key role played by Aerolineas Argentinas”as he said that, among other actions, “he has put flights to Brazil, to Montevideo to the destinations that together with the ministry we have worked to strengthen demand: 80% receptive and 20% emissive. Flights to bring dollars to Argentina”.
Regarding what happened in this long weekend in the countryLammens highlighted that he produced “numbers that are no longer surprising” but remarked that they make them “very happy”.
“Clearly we, in the worst years of the sector, in the pandemic, we insisted a lot that tourism is a strategic sector for the country’s growth, to strengthen regional economies and we made many plans to sustain the sector in that worst moment”, Indian.
He pointed out that when observing what happened in the summer season and now in this extraordinary weekend, “the certainty appears, the conviction that we were not wrong in the diagnosis.”
“Record numbers with 2.5 million tourists, more than 2 million visitors, an economic impact on all the regional economies, with the consolidation also of some emerging destinations that until recently were not among the great holders of tourism and that today , with a development plan implemented by the Ministry, can be seen with chosen destinations,” he said.
The benefits of the Pre-Trip
Lammens maintained that “a season is taking place that was prolonged to a great extent by Pre-Trip” and added that “without any doubt that the Program has collaborated a great deal.
“There are still people who are traveling with the Pre-Trip from last year and that makes the program more virtuous”he underlined.
Lammens described the program as “a great possibility and a great success, because when public policies are so effective they change the lives of so many people; when they are so accepted and have an almost unanimous consensus among the entire political arc, society and other , they are policies that must be taken care of, embraced and that must be continued”.
And that effectiveness was evident during the long weekend, where “from Tierra del Fuego to Jujuy, passing through Misiones, Córdoba, San Juan, La Rioja, and I don’t want to forget any destination, when one checks the levels of everyone’s occupation is above 90% and that means more work,” he emphasized.
“The three activities that have supported the growth of employment in recent months have been construction, industrial activity and tourism: almost 50,000 jobs generated in recent months”he pointed.
