The 10 facts about Andrés Vallejo, new ambassador to Spain

The Quito politician confirmed that he will travel to Spain to assume his duties as a diplomat next January.

Andres Vallejo talked to LA HORA on his assignment as ambassador to Spain. There he pointed out that he will focus on working for migrants living in Europe and on strengthening collaboration with the Iberian country.

The politician indicated that President Guillermo Lasso called him “a few weeks ago” to propose that he be part of the diplomacy. In the dialogue with this newspaper, he denied that it was a political agreement. “This designation is in a personal capacity. It has nothing to do with Democratic Left. It is a personal decision of mine that does not compromise the party in any way ”.

  • He was born on September 4, 1942 in Quito.
  • He is a member of the Democratic Left (ID) for 50 years.
  • Served as councilor of the capital during the periods 1972-1976, 1979-1984, 2000-2004 and 2005-2009.
  • It was vice mayor in the last period.
  • Assumed as Mayor of Quito between January 29 and July 31, 2009 after the resignation of Paco Moncayo
  • Exercised as national deputy
  • He chaired the Congressional Economic Commission between 1984 and 1988.
  • Was elected President of Congress between 1986 and 1987.
  • In 1990 he presided over the Monetary Board.
  • He received the distinction of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica, awarded by King Juan Carlos I, in 1989
