Seven people are sentenced to 50 years in prison for the El Terrón massacre

The Homicide and Femicide Section of the Bocas del Toro Prosecutor’s Office achieved the maximum sentence of 50 years for the seven people who had been convicted of murder, femicide and deprivation of liberty to the detriment of seven people; event occurred in the community of El Lump, on January 14, 2020.

On November 15, the Public Ministry reported that the sentence of 47 years in prison had been achieved for two other people linked in this case, through a sentence agreement, while the remaining seven decided to undergo an oral trial.

The investigation into this case began in January 2020 when a mass grave with seven bodies was found; later it was determined that they were six minors and a 32-year-old woman who was pregnant.

The first results of the investigations determined that the defendants were members of a religious sect called “Church of God.”
