Fanny Wong: ‘One of the most important challenges is an inclusive and quality education’

Every December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is commemorated at the initiative of the United Nations General Assembly, which established it through Resolution 47/3 in 1992, whose objective is to focus on this group to raise awareness about their economic, social, political and cultural situation, help fight discrimination and promote their well-being and rights.

Fanny Wong, president of the Stand Up and Go Foundation, highlighted that one of the current problems for people with disabilities is access to education. “We need deaf people to have sign language interpreters, for blind people to learn Braille, for children with physical disabilities to go to schools like other children, for there to be ramps, accessible buildings, as long as this does not happen, we are in a situation of discrimination because we cannot lead a life like other people. One of the most important challenges is an inclusive and quality education ”, he explained.

He noted that public transport is not accessible either. “The Metro is accessible, but sometimes the elevator is damaged, this is a matter for everyone, the community, the State and today is an opportune day for this, to put on the table the situations that must be improved,” he said.
