The Secretary of the Navy (Semar) denied that the theft of 20 containers with gold, silver, zinc and electronic items, committed in the early hours of June 5 in Manzanillo, Colima, occurred within the port area or in facilities under the protection of elements. of the Navy.
Meanwhile, the head of the National Customs Agency of Mexico, Horacio Duarte, reported that inquiries will be launched to determine if there is any official involved, although he pointed out that no responsibility of the Navy can be argued, because it is a private space, so he called to wait for the results of the investigation.
At this time no customs official has been called to declare, we will wait and we will make available to the authorities what they ask of us
he pointed out in an interview.
For their part, officials from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed that they have not received any complaint about these events, because they did not occur within any area of federal jurisdiction, for which the investigations of the case will remain strictly under the local scope.
The aforementioned containers were found in a patio belonging to a private individual and not within the port area of Manzanillo, Colima, where security is in charge of the Secretary of the Navy.
clarified the Navy, which detailed that it learned of the robbery through open sources.
These versions indicate that the containers were stolen from the facilities of the Alonso Mireles maneuvers company and that the total value of what was stolen exceeds 12 billion dollars.
A group of between 10 and 14 subjects violated the access locks to the company’s maneuvering yard, subdued the guards, loaded the containers onto tractor-trailers and took them away. The entire operation lasted more than 10 hours.
The protection and security of the goods in this type of facility are in charge of the personnel who own said place (private security) and have the permission of the municipal government to carry out their activities.
