Host city of the Third Design Biennial of Havana, yesterday a program was inaugurated in Camagüey that draws the attention of specialists, artists and professionals in the various manifestations of design.
The event broke with the premiere of the play Mambo for a Biennial, of the Folkloric Ballet of Camagüey. And at the Alejo Carpentier Universal Art Gallery, the collective exhibition was presented Harvest 3.0 with the works and finalist projects proposed for the National Catalog of the Biennial, by the designer David González, the architect Henry Mazorra and the audiovisual producer Oscar Alejandro Viñas.
Organized by the National Design Office (ONDI) and the Caguayo Foundation, the event proposes a theoretical exchange through conferences, said its Coordinator, Daimí Ruiz Varela. “The sessions on Thursday and Friday are dedicated to the cycle of conferences that the president of the Biennial, Gisela Herrero García, will initiate, entitled Design with everyone”.
“Other topics of the theoretical event address issues related to the Cuban Cartel and National Identity; and Design in Cuba; in a Panel the exchange around Design and Utopia will be promoted”.
“Four exhibitions are opening these days: continuous rebirthby the artist Nazario Salazar; PlimaShow, the goldsmith Pavel Martínez; and group shows recycle you, with the theme of recycling, design and its usefulness, through the creation of utilitarian objects dedicated to children and young people; plus, Ink under the skin, on the skin Presence, from the Presencia Fashion Project, invited from the province of Ciego de Ávila”, said Ruiz Varela. .
“One of the attractions of the Camagüey Biennial is in the second edition of the contest Reflexes, in which 25 projects compete in five categories, presented by designers, architects, plastic artists, students and entrepreneurs; and that in addition to the Jury prizes, it will have the Popularity Prize, awarded by the public. The works of the participants will occupy the windows of the commercial spaces in the central streets of Maceo and República, in the city of Camagüey”, Ruiz Varela specified.
For Saturday June 11 the tour is reserved Architecture, Design and Cultural Heritage with visits to heritage sites in the city, and David González Pérez’s personal exhibition, entitled Youth: the rhythm of a language, on graphic design and illustration in communicative products for cultural events of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS).
This is the third time that the Design Biennial goes from Havana to Camagüey. For three days, a varied exhibition and practical sample is offered in galleries and public spaces in the city.
