Spain struggled but ended up beating Switzerland 1-0 on Thursday to claim its first win in group A2 and get back into the race for UEFA Nations League qualification.
A goal by Pablo Sarabia (13′) gave La Roja three golden points, second in Group 2 of League A of the tournament, behind Portugal, who beat the Czech Republic 2-0 on Thursday.
The Portuguese lead the group with a two-point advantage over the Spanish, one point behind the Czechs, while the Swiss remain in last place after only losing in their three appearances.
The two draws against Portugal (1-1) and the Czech Republic (2-2) had greatly reduced Spain’s margin of action, which needed victory in Geneva to continue aspiring to the ‘Final 4’ of the League of Nations.
Nations League group A2 positions: Portugal, 1st with 7 points; Spain, 2nd with 5 points; Czech Republic, 3rd with 4 points; Switzerland, 4th with 0 points.
