The Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, appeared on Tuesday the 7th before the Senate, as a General Commission, convened by the Broad Front to give explanations about his management, about his announced action plan in matters of public security and about the increase in homicides in recent months.
After the parliamentary session, the FA senators’ bench issued a statement in which it states that “once again the expressions of the Executive Power were characterized by refusing to take a comprehensive look at the violence and by attacking the management of the Broad Front and the figure of the former minister, Eduardo Bonomi”.
The opposition coalition assures that situations of violence cannot be addressed only with police actions, but that they require comprehensive solutions. “In the years 2020 and 2021, marked by the pandemic, the number of homicides decreased, but once social mobility recovered, it increased again in the second half of 2021 and did so with greater force in the first five years. months of 2022”.
Improvisation
In this sense, the FA assures that Minister Heber and the government must “take charge of this issue.”
“However, we have the deepest conviction that public security is a social problem that concerns and challenges everyone,” recognizes the left.
In any case, they question that Heber “has not yet recognized the incidence of the pandemic in the decrease in crime during 2020 and in the first half of 2021, and has not yet presented the action plan, instead they only proposed specific actions relative to to the closure of drug sales outlets”.
“The Minister also did not recognize that we are suffering an expansion of violence that affects our entire society, with unfortunate consequences for the future of all Uruguayans; he also did not admit that there is a significant sense of insecurity in the population and of not reporting the crimes of which they are victims, ”says the Broad Front.
He affirms that the Secretary of State “did not take responsibility for the improvisation and lack of relevance of his actions and public statements, and ignored the great difference that exists between the electoral promises made and the few results obtained.”
The Broad Front emphasizes that it is faithful to its democratic and republican convictions and therefore stated its willingness to “contribute all its ideas and initiatives to face a painful problem that affects the whole of society.”
