To take their product to the Adepcoca market, they pay Bs 2 for each bag of coca and obtain their “communal leaf” which is the “pass” to La Paz. Transportation between the community and La Paz can cost Bs 20 for each bag. Upon arrival you must pay another Bs 1 per bag to the market deposit.

The peasant obtains Bs 7,500 for his 10 bags and discounting the costs and his expenses of stay in La Paz you can have Bs 5,000 every three monthswhich means a “salary” of Bs 1,600 each month.

The other face

The marketer or “retailer” is the one who buys the bags of coca from the peasant and then sells them to the final consumer, its role is less complicated, it must have a license that must be processed before the General Directorate of Coca and Industrialization (Digcoin) and the Vice Ministry of Coca, for a cost of $16,000.

This trader must pay Bs 70 to the State to take the 10 bags of coca to the final market, the destinations are: Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca, Oruro, Potosí and Beni, the most sought after is Santa Cruz. The license has a destination, the marketer must inform where he takes his product and they give him the license with that specific route.

For removing their product from the Adepcoca market, they must pay Bs 30 for each bag, that money administers the leadership of the coca market.

the hybrid

In 2017, after the promulgation of the General Law of Coca, the Government of Evo Morales was confronted with Adepcoca, in view of the conflict he encouraged the creation of the Single National Confederation of Retail Producers of the Coca Leaf (Conalprodc), which is made up of coca growers who have become merchants of their own product and are close to the government.

These have the same obligations as retailers, but with advantages, since to take the coca out of the market they do not pay Bs 30, but Bs 20. They must also pay Bs 70 for the “roadmap” that Digcoin gives them.
