The clash between rivals and leaders of the Brazilian Women’s Championship A1 (first division) did not disappoint. In front of an audience of almost six thousand people, Palmeiras received Corinthians in the opening of the 11th round, won 2-0 and knocked down two writings at once. Verdão had not yet defeated their rivals since resuming the women’s football project in 2020. There were ten games with four draws and six victories for Timão, including two in last year’s Brasileirão decision. The setback was also the first for the Parque São Jorge team in the 2022 season. Duda Santos scored both goals of the game, one in the first half and one in the second. Now, the Palmeiras team opens four points over rivals in the lead (28 to 24). Internacional, who is 23 years old, can still move up to second place if they win this Sunday’s Gre-Nal (5), at 11 am (Brasilia time).

The derby at Allianz Parque arrived with great expectations, as the rivals have been the best teams in Brazilian women’s football and the base of the team led by Pia Sundhage. Together, the two teams provided nine athletes to the Swedish coaching list for friendlies held in April. One of them ended up being highlighted.
Palmeiras’ number 7, Duda Santos, opened the scoring at 27 of the first stage. Bia Zaneratto made a great move down the left and crossed. Without being bothered by the opposing defense, the palmeirense midfielder completed in the first place, on the counterfoot of goalkeeper Lelê, to open the score.
In the second half, Timão came with everything to try to equalize and almost succeeded in the beginning. In another move on the left, Gabi Portilho completed and stopped in the defense of goalkeeper Jully.

Corinthians came to swing the nets, but irregularly, when Jheniffer, who had entered after the break, completed a corner kick from the right with his arm. She received the yellow card in the 37th minute.
Right after the scare, Verdão was able to breathe a sigh of relief. At 39, after a move from the right, Duda Santos won a dispute in the middle and kicked hard, from outside the area. Lelê palmed, but the ball hit the crossbar and fell into the goal.
In the next round, Palmeiras has another classic, this time against São Paulo, on Sunday (12), away from home. The day before, Corinthians face Flamengo, also away from home.
