In the next four years the tourism sector of the Dominican Republic will be receiving investments approximate to 34,331 million dollars in mixed, hotel and real estate projects, contributing about 9,026 rooms to the Dominican market.
“A fundamental indicator to see investment in the future is what happens today with those who put their money in the Dominican Republic, such as hoteliers and all those who invest in some infrastructure such as water parks and other investments real estate,” he said. He explained that so far this year they already have nearly 2,000 rooms between real estate and hotel companies.
“Important projects like Downtown Punta Cana, in its second stage that has already come out and, with this, projections of investments of about 34,331 million dollars in the next four, five, seven years, depending on how the Downtown Punta Cana project goes,” he said.
The recently presented data indicates that in the province of La Altagracia nine projects will be developed, one in Santo Domingo and two in La Romana.
Behavior of tourism in the Dominican Republic
During May 2022, 561,323 non-residents arrived in the country, representing 11% more than the same month in 2018, 6% in May 2019 and 44% in the same period in 2021.
Among the non-residents who arrived in the Dominican Republic in May 2022, some 453,371 were foreigners and 107,952 Dominicans. These travelers represented 640 million dollars for the Dominican economy.
Passengers arrived through 4,675 commercial flights, with 80% occupancy. They arrived in the country through more than 200 routes, connecting the Dominican Republic with 128 cities through 125 airlines.
The data presented by Ministry of Tourism Recently, they indicate that, by sea, the Dominican Republic received 82,199 people during May 2022. Of these, 50,233 were single cruise passengers and 24,114 crew members, including cabotage.
In addition, the passengers arrived by 10 different lines, of which 19 were cruise ships and 13 ferries.
According to the Tourism publication, in the last 12 months, 6,459,738 non-residents arrived in the country, of which 2,902,280 passengers arrived in the country between January and May 2022.
