SNI on nationalization of copper: “It goes against all the principles of our social market economy”

SNI on nationalization of copper: "It goes against all the principles of our social market economy"

Jesús Salazar Nishi, president-elect of the National Society of Industries (SNI), described the bill presented by on the nationalization of copper. In addition, that it violated the principles of our social market economy.

“It is impossible, it is not viable and it goes against all the principles of our social market economy”, he noted in an interview with RPP.

As is known, on Thursday, June 2, the Free Peru caucus, through Congresswoman Margot Palacios Huamán, presented a bill for the nationalization of copper and the creation of the state-owned company Las Bambas SAC.

Along these lines, Salazar questioned the government’s lack of leadership and communication to deal with different problems such as the paralysis of Las Bambas, the food crisis and food inflation.

“I do believe that the president should expose what he is doing or wants to do in the country, because the residents, unions and businessmen have a big question mark about where we are going. That uncertainty has already hit investments. Despite the fact that the BCR said that this year investments will be zero, we estimate that it will end in negative”, pointed out the president-elect of the SNI.

“There is no reaction from the Government, the economic situation in Peru is getting worse and we do not see exit floors”he added.

Finally, the new head of the industrial union highlighted the economic growth in certain sectors during the first months of 2022.

“We can rescue that the GDP growth of the manufacturing sector so far in the first quarter is 2%, this is positive compared to the same period last year. This impulse was given thanks to the textile sector and the metalworking sector. Likewise, the non-primary manufacturing sector has grown 5.5% and the average is 2%”, held.

It is worth mentioning that from June 9, Jesús Salazar Nishi will assume his duties as president of the National Society of Industries (SNI), replacing Ricardo Márquez.
