June also marks the World Day for Sexual Diversity (June 25), a date that has been an opportunity to claim the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite, transgender, transsexual and intersex people.
When is Pride Day 2022?
The commemoration date is June 28, which this year falls on a Tuesday, so the march will take place the previous weekend, that is, on Saturday the 25th of the month.
“The basic notion of ‘LGBT Pride’ is that no person should be ashamed of who they are, whatever their sex, sexual orientation or sexual identity,” says the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred).
Why is Pride Day celebrated?
The date was chosen as part of the commemoration of the Stonewall riots, New York, United States in 1969, during which LGBT people resisted police harassment for several days, marking the beginning of a movement that became massive and has spread throughout the world.
According to the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), in Mexico, in 1971 the first group was founded to claim the rights of lesbian and gay people, and in 1979 the first Gay Pride demonstration was organized, to claim the right to assemble freely without police harassment.
