Exports of goods exceeded US$ 1,500 million in May and break a record

Uruguay’s foreign trade in goods showed a solid performance in May with a historical mark. The increase in the last month was led by soybeans (+23.7 percentage points —pp—, to US$ 474 million), beef (+10.3 pp, to US$ 281 million), cellulose (+4, 7 pp, to US$ 144 million), vehicles (+4.1 pp, to US$ 53 million), rice (+3.4 pp, to US$ 34 million), dairy products (+2.7 pp, to US$81 million) and malt (+2.1 pp, to US$36 million).

China continues to lead as a market

The main destinations of exports in May were: China (24%, to US$325 million), Brazil (12%, to US$163 million), European Union (9%, to US$125 million), Argentina (8 %,) and the US (6%), according to Uruguay XXI.

In the accumulated January-May, exports to China totaled US$ 983 million and grew 72% in the year-on-year comparisonl. In the case of Brazil, they totaled US$352 million (+47%), to Argentina US$172 million (+751%) and the US US$219 million (+22%). Algeria also stood out with purchases for US$ 152 million and a year-on-year increase of 112%. This market is the main destination for powdered milk exported by Uruguay.
