$2 million worth of gold tabernacle stolen from New York church
A gold tabernacle valued at more than 2 million dollars was stolen from a Catholic church in the New York district of Brooklyn, local media reported this Sunday.
Police believe the thieves forced their way into the temple, currently under construction, and used tools to open an altar and take away the valuable, more than century-old artifact.
In addition, they decapitated statues of angels that flanked the piece, according to officials of the church of San Agustín, located in the neighborhood of Park Slope, in Brooklyn.

Hundreds of Ukrainian Roma refugees, mostly women with children and some with Hungarian nationality, have been stranded for weeks at Prague’s central station due to the refusal of local authorities to accommodate them in formal reception centers.
“From the 300 Roma a few weeks ago we went to about 500, and it can continue to increase,” Jakub Chromy, crisis manager for the local humanitarian organization OPU, which is trying to alleviate the situation for these people, told Efe.
The Czech Republic argues that persons with dual Ukrainian and EU (eg Hungarian) nationality cannot receive the same aid as other war refugees.
Rains cause havoc in Brazil and leave 84 dead
The death toll from the heavy rains that have hit the state of Pernambuco, in northeastern Brazil, has risen to 84 since the beginning of this week, while dozens of people are still missing, according to official sources.
The governor of the state of Pernambuco, Paulo Cámara, reported that 79 of the 84 victims died between 6:00 p.m. on Friday and this Sunday, when intense rainfall was recorded throughout the state, mainly in the Recife metropolitan region.
