The bench of Democratic Change-Together for Peru condemned the actions of harassment and intimidation against the president of the National Elections Jury (JNE), Jorge Luis Salas-Arenasand the head of the ONPE, Piero Corvetto. Said attacks take place as a result of the refusal of the mentioned authorities of the electoral system to apply the questioned norm that seeks the registration after the term of pre-candidates to internal elections of the 2022 elections.
In a statement, the left-wing caucus asserted that the initiatives announced by Popular Action “do not contribute to the strengthening of democracy and respect for our institutions.”
“Law 31481, which modifies the schedule for regional and municipal elections, affects the functioning of the electoral system, violates the principles of the intangibility of regulations, estoppel, non-retroactivity of laws and legal certainty; and implies a serious affectation of the right to equality”, reads the statement.

In this line, the political group supported the decision of the electoral entities, who, via a statement, asserted that the rule in question “is legally and materially impossible to comply with.”
“We urge political organizations to respect the rules and principles that regulate the electoral process and to cease any attempt to modify these rules due to their interests,” concludes the text of Cambio Democrático-Juntos por el Perú.

Acción Popular threatens to constitutionally denounce electoral authorities
Despite the fact that article 99 of the Magna Carta does not include the heads of the electoral system, the caucus of Acción Popular announced that it will file constitutional complaints against Jorge Luis Salas Arenas, Piero Corvetto and Carmen Velarde Koechlin for not applying the electoral counter-reform.
