The government of China delivered this Friday to Cuba two new donations, consisting of 100,000 dollars and 5,000 solar panels, according to official media reports.
The first of these aids was donated by the Chinese Embassy on the Island and seeks to support the fight against COVID-19 in the Caribbean country, and contribute to the repair of the buildings affected by the recent explosion at the Saratoga hotel in Havana, refers the agency Latin Press (PL).
When delivering the check to the Cuban authorities, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba, Ma Hui, assured that the donation is “an expression of the friendship that unites both peoples and governments in the common effort to build socialism” and “ratified the will” of his country to continue deepening relations and cooperation with the Island.

On the Cuban side, the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Déborah Rivas thanked the Asian nation for its help, which she described as “important and timely”, while recalling that since the start of the pandemic, China has sent to the Island more than 100 tons of aid.
As for solar panels, PL precise that the equipment, donated by the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment, arrived in the Caribbean country between June of last year and April of this year and consists of five thousand isolated photovoltaic systems for families living in areas of difficult access in the eastern region.
At the official donation ceremony, Ma Hui explained that it is a project that seeks to improve the lives of these families with the basic contribution to electricity and lighting services, as well as contributing to combating climate change and promoting employment. of renewable energy on the island.

In his words, the Chinese ambassador highlighted Cuba’s “enormous potential” for the use of clean energy, while the Cuban Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Tatiana Amarán, confirmed the “strategic objective” of increasing electricity generation on the island to from renewable sources, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions, as part of the government plan until 2030.
