Argentina and Mexico would organize a CELAC summit parallel to the Summit of the Americas

A few days before the Summit of the Americas takes place, Argentina and Mexico promote a parallel summit of the Celac (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States), in order to include the countries that were excluded by the United States.

The initiative would be promoted by Argentina, due to the fact that Alberto Fernández chairs pro tempore the Celacfor which the idea of carrying out a Assembly with all the countries of America and the Caribbean.

The president has insisted that all countries be called.

This means that the summit of the Celac would include Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela; since the White House refuses to invite these nations because “they do not respect the democratic charter of the Americas.”

Although Alberto Fernández had initially confirmed his participation in the Summit of the Americas, this was questioned after his meeting with Christopher Dodd, special adviser to the United States Government for the Summit of the Americas.

The last Summit of the Americas was held in 2018.

During their meeting at the Casa Rosada, the Argentine president would not have confirmed his participation to Dood, however Fernández did emphasize that “Argentina is going to work for the success of the Summit, with everyone included.”

It was also learned that Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero recently traveled to Mexico to meet with his counterpart Marcelo Ebrard, in order to coordinate the event, since the governments of both countries insist that there should be a summit without “exclusions.”
