Teachers and administrators of the United Nations school in La Chorrera, carried out a picketing and a peaceful march, in the main streets of this district, against the high cost of the basic family basket, the constant increases in fuel and problems within the campus.
Victor Moreno, one of the teachers, said that this protest is not only for the benefit of the educators of the campus, but of all Panamanians because the rise in fuel affects everyone.
“We demand that the government stop the rise in fuel now, because it directly affects each one of the Panamanians,” he said, stating that another of the demands and reason for the protest is the poor state of the school’s infrastructure, which is why They asked the Ministry of Education (Meduca) to intervene in the construction of new classrooms and bathrooms.
They also ask for the improvement of the gym, the hiring of personnel, manual workers, guards, inspectors and most importantly, after the pandemic, that a psycho-pedagogical cabinet be established for the students “who have arrived with so many problems at home, at home and their communities”
The teachers assure that they will keep in touch with the Meduca authorities until they get answers, otherwise they will carry out new protests.
